Baptism

Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

- Acts 2:38

Our Catholic Community joins you in thanking God for the gift of new life. As you are seeking the baptism of your child in the Roman Catholic Church, the following guidelines are presented to help you embark upon this journey of faith with Christ and his Church.

The Sacrament of Baptism is often called "The door of the Church," because it is the first of the seven Sacraments not only in time, but also in priority. The reception of all other Sacraments depends on it. Baptism is the first of the three Sacraments of Initiation, the other two being the Sacrament of Confirmation and the Sacrament of Holy Communion. Once baptized, a person becomes a member of the Church.

The Role of the Community

Baptisms are normally celebrated during Mass. Christian initiation is an ecclesiastic event - the sacramental act by which the community welcomes others into its life. It's presence and involvement constitute the basic shape of the sacramental sign.

Baptism Preparation for Infants

Before the couple begins with our classes they must arrange a get-to-know-you meeting with our pastoral assistant, Martin Kondzielewski. He can be reached via pastor.assistant@holycrossregina.ca

Preparation for parents, including discussion of the signs, symbols and meaning of baptism, is required prior to the celebration of the Sacrament.

Baptism classes are offered as required. The dates you will receive from Father at your initial meeting. To print registartion form, print the registration form fill it in and return the registration with the fee of $30.00 to the office as soon as you can. If you like you can email the pastoral assistant and request the Word version. This document can be typed up , saved under another name in Word or saved as a PDF and sent back to the PA.

The classes would start at 6:30 pm and will run about 1.5 hours. We can, by consensus, move the time back if necessary.

Secondly, we understand that the little ones could prevent both parents coming. We will have available, upon request, a St. John’s trained babysitter (or sitters, depending on numbers) to look after the children, all children under the age of 12. We don’t want parents being distracted or splitting their resources for these classes.

Baptism Preparation for Children

We understand that children coming for baptism would like to take classes with their peers and parents. Infant baptism is from birth to about 6 years of age. Children from age 7 and up are very capable of understanding what is happening, which we call age of reason.

As we are approached, we will schedule classes separated for them. Please print the registration form, fill it in and return the registration with the fee of $30.00 to the office as soon as you can. If you like you can email the pastoral assistant and request the Word version. This document can be typed up , saved under another name in Word or saved as a PDF and sent back to the PA.

If you are not registered members of Holy Cross, we ask that you register with us.

Baptisms are not scheduled during Advent or Lent.
